Be the person you want to become.
I am writing this post in my shower robe with my hair in a towel, skin dry and itchy from hopping out of the shower to immediately write this post before the inspiration is gone. It's been one of those days when the kids are at school and instead of being productive with my kid free self I end up in bed watching Buffy till noon, yeah one of those days.
When I have one of these days and inevitable feel guilty about it I take a mental self assessment:
Do I actually need a break? Is my body and mind telling me to slow dawn and take a R&R day (Rest & Relaxation)?
If it is then I get what my body is telling me I need: shower, sleep, brain break (otherwise known as informal meditation), food that doesn't come in a wrapper, sunshine, a walk in the fresh air without feeling guilty that I just don't have the mental bandwidth to bring the dogs.
If I'm just being "lazy" (grrrr evil word that I hate because laziness is just the physical manifestation of an internal need), but semantics aside, if I'm just not being productive because I just don't feel like it then I turn on one of my audiobooks that kick my butt.
Today it was Audible's Original: Mel Robins Here's Exactly What To Do, Episode 1: Get and Stay Motivated.
As soon as I hear her no BS voice and demeanor my brain get's triggered into action. In fact, I need to learn how to get my Alexa to start playing one of her audio books in the morning and afternoon automatically to bet me in the motivational mind frame (if you guys know how to do that, please, please, please leave me a comment. It would be much appreciated!).
This was my first time listening to it and this is what I got out of it:
- You will never be motivated. If you are it might be a fleeting thought. You will just have to force yourself. (which sucks especially if you have AHDH and lack executive functioning).
- She also said exactly what I touched on in my last post: Parent Yourself. Be your own cheerleader, coach, white knight, and parent yelling at you to get up or you'll miss the bus.
- You want to be a certain way? Start acting like it!
This last one is actually something I learned in my youth from church of all places. A church teacher did a lesson on acting the way the person you want to be would act. Mind blown.
You want to be a fit person? how does a fit person act? do they sleep till 10, eat a chocolate bar for breakfast, stay in bed till 12 watching shows, have Oreos for lunch, think about making a smoothy or chicken for lunch, but then ops for frozen pizza instead? Ummm, no.
Does the world's best mom never get alone time to recharge so she's tired and angry at her kids all day? Ummm, no.
Does a self made millionaire scroll on social media all day? ummm, no.
What person do I want to be? I want to be a fit person, I want to be the worlds best mom, I want to be a self made millionaire. So what do I have to do? Act like one!
Is it going to be hard? Ugggggh, it is going to be so hard! It is going to be brutal. As brutal as trying to get my 6 year old to do math...maybe even harder! But just as much as I want him to learn math so he can excel at school, I want to be the best possible me so I can excel at life!
So let's get going and start acting like the people we want to be! Tell me who you want to be and how you are going to do it below! for tips and advice, please comment and we can work together to become the bestest us there is!
